Q: Is this american made

Hi.You can alsomke your own There are pre bent burner wires.Can adjusts with pliers i also use copper tubing 1/32nd to adjust.Pliers work though.Now alone try on these Walnut Hollow to see if heat up on pen and remove with pliers.I have other pens and try the inexpensive wire tips most come with 22 .Have been under $10 for 22pcs.Also can get spools of 50 and longer.Anone know if Walnut Hallow also can pull out when hot?

The tip certainly gets hot enough to melt solder but the primary problem with this device is that tips have no mass (just wire) so they cool down quickly. I doubt you could get the ring hot enough to melt the solder and keep it all hot enough to get a good solder joint. Jut my opinion, I use mine for wood burning only.

Q: Can you use a surge protector with this tool?

I know of no reason why you can’t, but I personally think it would always be better to never leave it plugged in. It heats up fast and cools down without delay so better than a surge protection I would unplug it and put it away.
