Truly saved me after surgery!!!
I was headed for a surgery that required very strict after care....no 90 degree bending (only 30-60), which is required to sit on a regular toilet. We got a bedside commode, but found I couldn't get off of it without bending. I tried to get off the toilet with help--- on one leg--- and hurt my ankle and foot badly. So that was out.Fortunately, the physical therapist I saw pre-surgery, listened to my plight and told me that some of her patients had ordered a power lift toilet. I thought it was too expensive. Then, I thought again. My son came and assembled this WONDERFUL power lift toilet commode, and I instantly knew that this would make toileting possible (along with standing and using a female urinal). It has been a GODSEND!!! And it helped us skip over the awful experience of having to empty someone's bedside commode (that I couldn't safely use). This power lift toilet commode is worth its weight in gold. You have to recharge its battery, and yet it works on its own for hours. I always want it fully charged so it will work when I need it.The one thing I wish the manufacturers would do is make the 'on-off' buttons less difficult to push. They are hard to push, and with me trying not to bend while using my walker before sitting down, this has been quite difficult. Also, it takes huge strength to plug in the battery pack to the cord that is plugged into the wall, and to then re-attach the 'pack' to the toilet lift. Way too hard!!! And it's difficult to do while standing one one leg when I'm supposed to use one arm on the walker. Please make both of these easier!!!!

Gave Me Back My Independence
I am a 62 year old male with IBM. Until I got the Assist I had used toilet risers up to 4" and still needed help getting off of the toilet. The GentleBoost has given me my independence back and I require NO assistance when using it. Some of the reviews complain about the price, but considering the good quality and the fact that it works, it is hard to put a price on freedom. I don't use the removable back or the trays that come with it. My shower is an odd shape and too small so my review is only about using the unit over an existing toilet. It will take a bit of getting used to the unit. Aim can be a bit difficult since the pivot bar in the seat is in a somewhat inconvenient location. Height adjustment is important before use since the unit will give 70 lbs of spring force with the remaining weight controlled by the pivot action of the seat. I would not let a feeble older person use this unsupervised. The unit could be considered somewhat portable, but it breaks down into awkward shapes. The hand rails are detachable if you feel through the foam pad and press the release pins. The back and legs are also removable. This unit has changed my life for now. My wife feels at ease going to work knowing I won't be stranded. She has even scheduled a 6 day trip to visit her mother. It is worth every penny and then some.

Very Nice but DANGEROUS
Best qualities are Good looking, sturdy, easy to assemble , easy to clean. Worse qualities are Its spring lift and red clips. (On first usage my seat acted like a catapult by nearly pushing me face first onto the floor. Luckily I was able to brace myself on a bed to prevent a bad fall.). The clips don’t stay on. After I learned to be extremely careful and hold the back section of the armrest, I could hold on to the chair without getting pushed off when it lifts. If holding the top, the top flips to the front and one cannot hold on safely. I push clips down after sitting and check to see if they’re still engaged before getting up. Sometimes they are not. If you can somehow make it safe for yourself, it’s a great chair and nice addition to a sick room or for someone suffering from overactive bladder who needs this nearby convenience.

I'm 6 feet and the lowest setting is just about right for me
I bought this for my THR last week. I wasn't sure if I would be able to maneuver in the bathroom easily with a walker. After doing a little rearranging I can get in and out okay. I'm actually using this as a chair to sit in while watching TV/eating. I didn't really have anything that was high to sit in, so figured why not?I'm now a week post surgery and haven't had any problems getting up or sitting by myself. I did put a thicker pillow to sit in, but I don't think that would even need to be necessary. The contour of the seat is pretty comfy.I have yet unlocked the arms and tried to catapult my way out of the chair. When that time comes I'll come back and edit (if I even remember). The only minus I could think of is for shorter people. It may be a little too tall.
