A Great Value
The peppercorns arrived a day later than promised, although that was Amazon's fault, not the vendor. I was surprised to find that Sichuan peppercorns are not a tight ball, like most peppercorns, but look a little like tiny red popcorn kernels. The portion is very generous for the price! A great value.

A Great Quality Szechuan Pepper.
This is very high quality Szechuan pepper. I put this into an Oxo-good grip grinder. A little goes a long way. This pepper is spicy and it adds a nice dimension to foods. Don't use too much or it overwhelms the flavor. You can always add more, but it's impossible to take out of cooked foods. Great product. This quantity will last a long time.

Best Sichuan/Szechuan Pepper on Amazon.
After only finding very poor quality Sichuan pepper in a local Asian grocery, I bought three brands on Amazon to compare, including this brand "CC-store super-grade organic", the "Spiceologist" peppers, and a China-packaged "Yu Yee Brand" carried on Amazon by a reseller. Of the three, "CC-store" is by far and away the BEST: a) mostly fresh pericarps, only a few seeds (very little waste) and b) very fresh taste. The "Spiceologist" packaged peppers I found to be very poor quality, about 50% un-useable material and relatively old taste. The "Yu Yee Brand" wasn't worth opening -- visibly, it was even poorer quality than the "Spiceologist" material.

Seem Fresh. Very Strong Smell, Taste, and Numbing Effect. Pods Only - No Black Seeds.
I've been buying Sichuan peppers at Whole Foods (the Spicely brand) for about a year. That's been my only real experience with them. I knew they were low quality because there were almost as many black seeds as there were seedpods. I also suspected they weren't fresh. They had very little smell, very little taste, and the only way to experience a numb mouth was to suck on the spice directly - I could never get a numbing effect from the final dish no matter how much I used or how I prepared it.So I tried these. They are so much better there's just no comparison.I used two-day shipping (prime) but they showed up in one day. The box had a strong scent like lavender - I thought my wife had ordered some bath soap or something, and was pretty surprised when I got the box open and found my bag of Sichuan peppers. I'd ordered the 12oz bag, and there were about 5 cups of pods (no black seeds) in a resealable bag. They seemed very fresh - you could smell them across the room.I had to try them.Five minutes later, I had powdered a spoonful and added it to the oil for a stir-fry of tofu with cabbage and ghost peppers. The smell was great, the taste was great, and it really enhanced the flavor of the other ingredients. Also, my mouth went numb at the third bite.So. Fresh, organic, great price - couldn't be happier.

Delicious mouth-numbing fire!
Delicious! Prior to this purchase I'd been subbing black peppercorns in my Oriental cooking. But there's just no substitute for the wonderful aroma and mouth-numbing spiciness of the Sichuan peppercorn. I recently made a batch of Sichuan peppercorn oil using this product - superb results! For my non-Oriental dishes that call for black pepper, I'll use 1/2 the black pepper and add 1/2 of ground Sichuan peppercorns (I use my VitaMix blender - it works well). I am pleased with the quality and value. I've packaged the remainder of my peppercorns in a vacuum (FoodSaver-type) bag. They should last indefinitely, I think. Would love to hear from other readers about recommended recipes using this product.

This is the real deal
This is the real deal. Super fresh and pungent. I've never been able to find decent sichuan peeppercorns in any of the asian grocery stores I've been to all over California. They're all dark brown and stale with very little tingly flavor/sensation. These are brightly colored and that characteristic scent/flavor hit me as soon as I opened shipping box it came in. With these, you only need maybe a teaspoon or less for a huge amount of flavor as good as the best sichuan restaurants. These might cost a lot more than the horrible ones you can find in a store, but it's well worth it and you get a huge a mount that should last a long time

VERY AROMATIC AND DECENT QUALITY
3.5 stars. Nice enough although it has a lot of little branches and twigs in the product mixed in with the peppercorns. But for the price it was ok plus I needed them delivered quickly and this one was readily available. The one thing I didn't care for is that the product arrived in a ziplock type baggie with out it being "properly" sealed as most products are, making you wonder why it wasn't packaged in a more sanitary or stronger manner. I transferred the peppercorns into a sealed small jar and used them for the Asian dish I was preparing. When I'm out I will probably will not reorder from this vendor again for the packaging reason.

Brown, not red. Photos inaccurate!
Color is BROWN with minimal hints of red. Taste is much weaker than other Szechuan peppercorns from Amazon or my local spice store. Quite similar to the low quality Asian grocery store peppercorns that look like they've been sitting on the shelf for a decade. Also, in the listing seller states there is a satisfaction guarantee, but good luck getting them to honor it. They provide no contact information. I had to file a complaint with Amazon to get my money back,
