Brilliant!
This Terralux upgrade for 4 to 6 cell Maglite is top notch. Very powerful flood exam. Floods a field with light. It turns a 6 cell Maglite into a serious bit of kit. The Terralux unit appears solidly made. Not cheap,or tacky.I was worried the lack of focussing would be a let down, but there is a long throw of a couple hundred metres easily, and a wide spread. I think the claimed 1,000 lumens is probably quite accurate.I don't know how long the batteries will last, but frankly because this upgrade is for 4 to 6 cell, and mine's a 6 cell Maglite, then as the 6 cells gradually lose charge down to the level of 4 cells, I presume the light output will be roughly the same up to that point, because of the voltage controller within the unit.Of course, heat reduces lumen output from an led as it warms up, but this upgrade didn't seem to be affected, purely subjectively, when I deliberately left it switched on for 20 'minutes or so. I think the fairly chunky metal surround helps to dissipate heat maybe?Although torches of higher "claimed" power are available, this Terralux unit is well made and you're fitting to an already very high quality Maglite housing. The finished torch is thus a solid quality bit of high power kit which should give years of service.Check your Maglite is compatible with the upgrade, in the seller's guide.

wow !!!!
i did not know if i should buy this upgrade for my maglite or not but having looked at a few reviews i thought id go for it and hey ---- an absolutely fantastic piece of kit, another reason i was not sure if i should buy or not is because you loose the ability to adjust from spot to flood with the new bulbs fitted but i have to say "it doesnt matter" as the terra lux lights everything up and i mean everything !!! well worth the money . by the way ---"do not" look at the bulb or point it in someones face when its on as you will damage yours or their eyes .. 5*****. ( i would just like to point out that i have amended my review as i had a issue with the price difference on the terralux 700 lumen bulb ie- £5 cheaper 6 days after i had purchased it and left the review thinking nothing else about it but i had an e-mail from widget co saying they are refunding me the £5 as a goodwill gesture ! can't believe it as i did not contact them to complain . top top company and i won't hesitate to recomend you. thank you ) !! ps i'll give the £5 to my local animal sanctuary.

So I ended up buying a new Maglite and it works Great! If I had more help from Terralux would ...
I brought one to put in a old 1980's 90's Maglite it didn't fit, I E-mail Terralux they wanted to speak over the phone I live in UK which is a problem with tel: numbers, I tried for ages trying different technics to make fit only without the focus fitting. So I ended up buying a new Maglite and it works Great! If I had more help from Terralux would have given a five star.

Save your money!
Firstly, I should say that this product technically does what it claims, pretty much. It will transform your old, tired Maglite from a dim, near-redundant paperweight to something that puts out several hundred lumens of light. This is not quite 1000 lumens and will certainly not operate at full output for long. The reason for the poor review is that there are just too many problems with this product and the idea behind it, namely:- You still have all the other problems with your Maglite such as single mode, old battery technology, poor anodising, plastic parts etc.- The light this drop-in puts out is an odd shape, has no real throw to it and has a terrible beam colour- There is no heat sinking. Because the Maglite was never designed for this, there is no way to really dissipate heat, which will damage the unit more quickly. The main problem though is the cost. For the cost of this you could buy yourself a complete new light which would be better in pretty much every way.Check out in particular Armytek, Fenix, Jetbeam and Klarus. HK Equipment is a good place to buy in my experience.

TerraLux 1000 Lumen upgrade
Very disappointed, my 500 lumen mtb light is just as powerful and the fact that you can't focus the beam on the maglite also is even worse

A good upgrade.
A really good upgrade to the standard D-Cell maglite, which is now using outdated technology in the grand scheme of things. If you require the extra 'heft' of a maglite it's a worthwhile purchase over buying a new torch.

awsome
This led head is for 4-6 cell torch,so I did not expect it to work with a 3 cell maglite, but it does, although not very punchy light and not a lot better than the incandescent it replaced. Not willing to purchase a 4,5, or 6 cell torch I decided that I may be able to fit extra cell or two to my 3 cell, the only option seem to fit aa cells in suitable adaptors, however this would give a big reduction in capacity, so I then tried 2 li-ion cells, these were slid into a tube to fit the maglite, and a suitable extended contact added to make connection with the tail cap. these two cells give 6.7 v which is more than a 4 cell, result a fantastic light that floodlights everywhere! And of course its a lightweight torch too,and without modifying the torch.Of course you must remember to revert to 3 dells if you fit the original bulb!
