You just can't beat good old fashioned Indian Ink for line and wash if you want a waterproof, smudge proof, permanent black line. Fibre tips and continuous feed cartridge pens just can't measure up. Using a dip pen is a bit of a faff, but you get the variation of line width and expression that lends character to a piece of work, and you know it will look just as good in 20 years time, or in 20 minutes after you have laid a wash over it! Don't be tempted to put it in a reservoir/cartridge pen, it contains shellac and will clog. Also if you like to use creative blots, they take quite a while to dry, so be prepared to give your work air drying time. The bottle doesn't contain a dropper, so you need to dip your pen. If you like to feed a clip on reservoir with a dropper you will need to obtain this separately or save it from another product.

Very high quality ink , permanent and lightfast at good price.The bottle is solid and the ink is also better than the well-known winsor and newton drawing ink.in fact in my opinion the stephens ink is more permanent ,deep and faster to dry.I recommend it to all.

Totally waterproof when dry. Can use diluted with water as a wash and for line drawing (1 in 2 up to 1 in 10) . Used neat or only a little diluted can give depth to a drawing when drawn over washes. Excellent product.

I actually ordered Stephens waterproof black ink but I have been sent calligraphy colour ink by a company called west,I cannot say that it’s waterproof,thank goodness I did a test before adding to my work as it smudges so I’m not really impressed at all.

Oddly enough, this ink is used for drawing using conventional pen nibs or cartridge pens with refillable containers. Get with it!

Doesn't fade, true black colour. Looks great on my manga pictures as it doesn't bleed when I overwork. Amazing product :)

THis was not as good as expected. My art teacher thought it was a bit powdery. So I used another make.
