Finely detailed 1/32 scale assembly model kit of the Grumman F4F-4 Wildcat, a single-engine carrier based fighter of the United States and its allies during the Second World War. Operated by the United States Navy and Marine Corps, the F4F Wildcat was the primary carrier fighter in the Pacific during the early stages of World War II. The F4F Wild was also operated by the British Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm, and the F4F was called the "Martlet" by the Royal Navy until March 1944 when it reverted to the US name Wildcat. Although outperformed by the legendary Mitsubishi Zero, the F4F held its own against the nimble Zero as skilled Allied pilots developed tactics that takes advantage of the F4F's superior dive capability and its ability to absorb battle damage. The F4Fs were replaced as the primary Navy fighter by the superb Grumman F6F Hellcat, but Wildcats of all variants continued to serve onboard smaller escort carriers for the remainder of the war.
