Les cahiers d'Esther (French Edition)

Riad Satouff est un artiste de BD très accompli. Chaque page est pleine d'humour, d'observations sur la condition humaine, et de commentaire social.

I can't remember the last time I laughed so much at a book. Esther is 9 going on 10, and goes to a private school in Paris, where she has several good friends with whom she plays, experiences girl-drama fall-outs, and suffers a sea of privileged, rough, rap-obsessed boys. Her (female) teacher has a moustache, and makes them sit through seemingly pointless lessons, eg about Joan of Arc (Esther wonders that such a great army follows her despite her minging hairstyle); we also meet Esther's family, who are her adored parents, and her spotty 14-year-old brother, who craves a footballer's haircut.I have a daughter exactly Esther's age. I bought this as an incentive for her to get more interested in learning French, but I'm glad she can't understand it. It does contain frequent, blue, and very funny swearing; there are emotionally wrenching stories in among the humour; and there's one story where the boys all discover YouPorn while hanging around in the playground. Each page is a different story, and I've helped my daughter to translate a couple of them: she and her little brother absolutely fell about laughing and couldn't get to sleep that night for the giggles. Just brilliant.

J’ai entendu tellement de bien de cette BD que je l’ai offerte à ma fille en toute confiance. J’ai été assez déçue. C’est assez inegal, souvent vulgaire, peu réaliste finalement. Certaines histoires sont même plutôt inappropriées... j’ai demandé à la fille de 10 ans ce qu’elle en avait pensé : exactement comme moi.

Ce n'est pas le genre de la maison, propos vulgaires pour une fillette de 10 ans un tant soit peu bien éduquée. Vues de l'arrière de couverture et d'une page prise au hasard m'a convaincu de le renvoyer sur le champ.

J'espérai une BD avec de l'humour mais en fait c'est un peu glauque ou alors, je n'étais pas d'humeur, je ne sais pas.En tout cas, je ne le donnerai pas à lire à mes enfants qui ont 10 ans, en tout cas pas tout de suite. Pour ma part, je l'ai rangé en ayant pas été plus loin que 10 pages
