Sculpting the Female Face & Figure in Wood: A Reference and Techniques Manual (Fox Chapel Publishing) Paperback – Illustrated, October 1, 2012

I purchased this in the hope that I might better be able to tackle face and figure carving. It is so well written that I decided to buy a second and third as gifts for two of my friends. Clearly written and understandable diagrams and instructions make it a worthwhile addition to my library.

I've been a Hobbist level wood carver for 40 years and this is the best sculptining resource book I've see so far. The project descriptions are clear, as are the technical compensations that need to be taken into consideration when carving in the round. The sample subjects, color photos, and photos of the end results are not only beautiful but inspiring. I've started a life size female carving using a pine log and hope to get reasonably good results just from using this book as a guide.

I really enjoy all of Ian's books and find them very informative although somewhat lacking in teaching some of the basics f carving.

The book came as scheduled, it was in excellent condition..it contained everything that you would to want learn or know about carving, book is full of images and very descriptive...I will be an amazon customer for life

This book is very detailed. Norbury does a great job of explaining how to carve faces and the female torso. The pictures are clear and help illustrate what he is telling the carver to do.

Ian Norbury is a perfectionist and this is what he is teaching in his book: perfection on sculpting a female face and torso. I must confess that it is too much for me, at my stage of carving, however I will keep his teachings in mind while developing my just started career in carving faces. This book is vey helpful in understanding body proportions and wood carving techniques. Ian Norbury is extremely good at what he does and explains it very well.
