This was to replace their Tennessee model, which had poor built quality. Although I can’t fault the tough built of the Vinson, it cooks poorly in one crucial area… 'direct grilling'. And for day to day use, this is a big deal.The marketing describes the Vinson as: "4 in 1 cooking functions (direct, indirect, smoking and curing)" I rang to clarify what this meant, and was told by the sales team that the "4-in-1” phrase did indeed mean that the Vinson is designed for all 4 cooking functions.Sadly, rather than being improved cooking, the Vinson is a downgrade from the Tennessee when gilling… The problem being that you can’t adjust the height of the coals in the main chamber, like you can on the Tennessee. That is essential when grilling, to controlling the heat at various stages of cooking, and also when the coals start to die out.So if you just want a smoker, it's well made. If you want to grill, then it's a very average experience. And as the lid doesn't go the whole way back, actually hard to use the standard charcoal chimney to get things started.Equally frustrating has been their customer care. They brushed off my original feedback and since totally ignored my official complaint. I know it's busy season, but they really need to improve their communication.
